Modern Mind Therapy  ·  Telehealth Counseling

Therapy for thoughtful people who
want to feel a little lighter.

Therapy for adults who think a lot, feel a lot, and would like a calm, engaged space to sort through what's underneath it all.

Who I Help

For the analyzers, planners, and quiet over-thinkers.

Many of the people I work with are bright, capable adults who can explain exactly what's happening in their lives — but feel stuck on what to do with all of it. The mind is busy; the feelings are loud; the inner critic is rarely off duty.

Together we slow down enough to treat your feelings as useful information rather than something to silence, fix, or push past. You're the expert on your own life — my role is to be an engaged, grounded thinking partner along the way.

  • You're navigating a season of change — career, identity, relationships, family.
  • Anxiety or low mood has started shaping more of your week than you'd like.
  • You want a therapist who is warm and willing to gently challenge you.

What Sessions Feel Like

Calm, unhurried, and led by what matters to you today.

Each session begins where you are — what's on your mind right now, what's followed you in from the week. From there we make room for the bigger picture: past patterns, current pressures, the future you're quietly hoping for.

01

You set the starting point

No rigid agenda. We begin with what you brought into the room — and trust that the thread will lead somewhere meaningful.

02

Feelings as information

Emotions aren't an inconvenience to manage around. They're data — and learning to read them changes how you respond to your life.

03

Warm, gently challenging

You can expect respect, compassion, and a therapist who's actively engaged — including when it's time to question a story you've been telling.

Specialties

Where my work most often lives.

My core focus is anxiety, depression, and the messy in-between of life transitions. I also support a wider range of concerns that often travel alongside them.

Anxiety

The racing thoughts, the over-preparing, the tightness that won't quite settle.

Depression

Heaviness, low motivation, and the quiet sense that something's off.

Life Transitions

New roles, new cities, new relationships — or the loss of any of the above.

Approach

Evidence-informed, and shaped to fit you.

My work is primarily grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but I'm flexible — I draw from Motivational Interviewing and a Person-Centered approach, and choose interventions based on the goals you bring to the room.

Therapy with me is a safe place to talk about what's actually going on, and a thoughtful place to gently examine the views, habits, or beliefs quietly standing between you and where you want to go.

  • CBT Practical tools for the patterns of thinking that keep you stuck.
  • Motivational Interviewing Honoring ambivalence — and gently moving toward change you actually want.
  • Person-Centered You lead. I listen carefully and meet you where you are, week to week.

About Amy

A grounded, curious therapist who genuinely loves the work.

I'm Amy Kurcz, MS, LPC. I've been in practice for sixteen years, and I still find people — what we carry, what we hope for, what we're trying to figure out — endlessly worth my attention.

I grew up in a family of educators, where listening, respect, and service were quietly held as the highest values. Years of group activities taught me to notice strengths and softer spots in people, and to support both. I bring that same attention into the therapy room.

My hope is that working together feels less like reporting in to a clinician and more like being met by a real, engaged human who takes your inner world seriously.

Yes — a free 15-minute phone consultation. It's a low-pressure way to ask questions, share a bit about what's bringing you to therapy, and decide together if we're a good fit.

My practice is telehealth-focused, with some in-person availability depending on schedule and location. Most clients meet with me by secure video.

Which insurance plans do you accept?

I'm in-network with Aetna, GEHA, Optum, Oscar Health, UMR, and UnitedHealthcare (UHC / UBH), and I work with out-of-network clients as well. Alma helps verify benefits and handle billing on my behalf.

What ages and clients do you work with?

I work with adults in individual therapy, primarily in their 20s and 30s. My practice is LGBTQ+ allied.
